Almost 15 years ago, Sara Reid, owner of Flavorful Creations LLC, decided to bring joy into the world with her bright smile and her delicious baked goods. Sara and her signature items have created an army of fans called her Flavorful Friends. You can find her products in many local shops, including Eastern Market, or online.
Why and how did you decide to start a food business?
I decided to start a food business out of personal loss. While working at a homeless shelter and getting my Masters in Social work, I would bring my baked goods into work and they brought my co-workers so much joy. Through the brilliant suggestion of my partner, Flavorful Creations was born.

How has owning a business changed now from when you first got started?
OMG! Let's talk about technology and the rising ingredients cost. I use wholesome and some organic ingredients. I refuse to compromise on quality, but I also want to keep my products affordable and accessible.
Business has grown and gotten better. I have acquired more business knowledge, used social media to grow my business even more.
Can you please tell us about your signature items?
Some of my signature items include our island style rum cakes, island monkey banana bread, vegan zucchini pineapple bread and my vegan sweet potato sandwich cookies.
How has utilizing the food business programming and incubator kitchen in Eastern Market impacted your growth as a business?
Being in this kitchen has truly helped me to understand my pricing structure, management of my time and the need for increased staff as we continue to expand. I have learned to grow slowly and not take on too much too soon. Growth is great, but being successful in my growth is even better.
Do you have advice for future food business entrepreneurs?
Grow at your own pace. Don't be swayed by what others are doing. Believe in yourself, get a good support system and KEEP GOING!
